ITINERARY- THE BEST OF CENTRAL PORTUGAL
Day 1: USA-Lisbon
Depart the US on your overnight flight to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
Relax and enjoy dinner, movie, and breakfast onboard.
Day 2: Arrive in Lisbon
Morning arrival is met by our local representatives who will arrange transfer from the airport to your hotel in Lisbon.
Day at leisure to relax and begin exploring the Portuguese capital. Tonight, enjoy welcome dinner at the rooftop Varanda restaurant in your hotel. Overnight at 4-star centrally located Mundial Hotel.
Day 3: 1/2 Day Sightseeing Tour of Lisbon
After a hearty buffet breakfast at your hotel, departure to visit the beautiful city of Lisbon: the quaint Alfama, the former Moorish quarters with its narrow and twisting streets, cobblestone alleys, and small whitewashed houses. We will drive to the historical Belem district, where you will see the Tower of Belem, Monument to the Discoverers, and the unique Manueline architecture of the Jeronimos Monastery. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at your centrally located hotel in Lisbon.
Day 4: Full day Sightseeing tour of Fatima, Óbidos, Alcobaça, Nazaré, and Batalha including lunch.
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by the tour escort to begin your 5 nights tour of Northern Portugal. By a landscape rich in windmills and fruit trees we arrive to Óbidos, surrounded by medieval walls where we can admire the harmony of its architecture, and the diversity of their handicrafts. Visit Alcobaça and the first and largest gothic church in Portugal holding the tombs of Dom Pedro and Inês de Castro, known by their love story. We will stop in Nazaré, a typical fishing village and seaside resort with its traditions and legends. After lunch in this Portuguese fishing village, we continue to Batalha to visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Victoria, a masterpiece of the gothic in Portugal where we can find the tomb of Henry the Navigator, the promoter of the maritime discoveries. After the visits, we arrive in Fatima, the famous Marian Shrine and center of the Catholic faith and world pilgrimage. Possibility to participate in a candlelight procession.
Early evening return to Lisbon. Overnight at your centrally located hotel.
Day 5: Full Day Sightseeing Tour of Sintra Deluxe visiting Pena Palace, the village of Sintra, the Royal Palace, Colares*, Cabo da Roca, Guincho, Boca do Inferno, Cascais, and Estoril, including lunch.
After breakfast, come and discover with us the magnificent Sintra village where the Royal Family used to live during the summers and taste the local traditional pastry in this charming region. Visit the Royal Palace and leave for the town of Colares on tramway*. Later admire Cabo de Roca, Europe’s westernmost point, and the incredible Boca do Inferno. We later visit the Cosmopolitan Cascais, and the Casino Estoril gardens. Lunch is included. End the day along the coast, passing by Cascais & Estoril. Early evening return to Lisbon. Overnight at your centrally located hotel.
Day 6: Full Day Sightseeing of Cascais, Ericeira, Mafra & Queluz including lunch
After breakfast at your hotel, today we discover the cosmopolitan city of Cascais and the typical village of Ericeira. Spend the afternoon visiting the most important monument from the Barroque period, the Mafra Convent, and end the tour visiting the Queluz Palace, one of the most representative monuments of Portuguese History and Art. Lunch is included. Early evening return to Lisbon. Overnight at your centrally located hotel.
Days 7 & 8: Lisbon
Enjoy these two days at leisure in the Portuguese capital strolling its avenues and streets and perhaps doing some shopping. Embroidery, tastefully handicraft table cloths, and Lladro porcelain are typical goods that can be purchased in Lisbon as well as Port wine and leather articles. Overnight at your centrally located hotel.
Day 9: Lisbon-USA: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight home, arriving later today.
